KARACHI: Pakistan number one Mohammad Asif will face second-ranked Asjad Iqbal in the Lagnese 4th Ranking Snooker Cup final today at the NBP Sports Complex.

Asif had to work hard to get past Sohail Shehzad while Iqbal thrashed Sharam Changezi in their 11-frame clash without dropping a set.

Initially, Asif was in a comfortable position against Shehzad with 5-2 but his opponent made a spirited comeback to make it 5-4. Asif rallied and sealed his victory with frame scores of 79-34, 52-65, 91-44, 34-84, 65-38, 70-50, 51-72, 70-76, 64-09 and 58-29.

He praised Shehzad for his outstanding performance in the event.

“Shehzad played unexpectedly well,” Asif told The Express Tribune. “He deserves the highest praise for his efforts. He reached here [at the semi-final] after beating some of the best players. But despite dropping a few games, I was confident of winning. Now the aim is to win the title.”

Meanwhile, number two Iqbal kept Changezi at bay with impressive scores of 72-35, 93-44, 79-09, 69-52, 68-50 and 54-23.
