ISLAMABAD:

The dual nationality case has roped in yet another high-profile target.

The country’s apex court on Thursday summoned Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif over Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz’s allegations that the former held dual nationality. “There are reports that Shahbaz has dual nationality and I request the election commission to investigate the matter,” Riaz had told reporters earlier on Wednesday.

Taking note of the allegations, the Supreme Court issued notices to both Shahbaz and Riaz to appear before the apex court on October 17.

The apex court is currently hearing cases against lawmakers with dual nationalities and had suspended as many as 11 lawmakers last week.

On Wednesday, the court suspended the membership of Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid MNA Shehnaz Sheikh for simultaneously holding a Pakistani and Australian nationality.

Does everything get OK if the other nationality is given up?
