HYDERABAD:

Sajjad Jumani, who is the brother of Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Shagufta Jumani, was sent on a 11-day judicial remand on Thursday. He was arrested three days ago for allegedly killing a friend, Shiraz Subehpoto, on September 26. The incident took place as Jumani and Subehpoto were attending an engagement ceremony.

According to investigating officer Iqbal Khwaja, Jumani has already admitted that he had killed his friend.

However, Jumani gave conflicting statements about the incident in front of media personnel outside the courtroom. He initially admitted that he had shot Subehpoto, but then said, “I don’t actually remember if I had opened fire on him” Subehpoto had two gunshot wounds, according to medico legal officer Dr Baldev.

Jumani had been working as an excise inspector since the last three years, and had spent prison time in the past for multiple charges. Shabbir Subehpoto, brother of the deceased, had lodged the FIR at Sakhi Pir police station and nominated three people, including Shiraz, for the murder. Police have yet to arrest the other two suspects, Jamil Jamali and another brother of the PPP MNA.
