Ephedrine case: Hanif Abbasi’s bail extended to Oct 17

RAWALPINDI: The pre-arrest interim bail of Hanif Abbasi, a PML-N MNA, was extended until October 17 on Wednesday. Abbasi is being tried for his alleged involvement in ephedrine smuggling. His company, Gray’s Pharmaceutical, allegedly misused 500kg of the controlled drug, allotted to it through a quota. His lawyer told the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench that a petition on the involvement of pharmaceutical companies in ephedrine misuse would be taken up by the Supreme Court (SC) on October 10. He argued that the high court should wait for the SC’s proceedings. Abbasi had obtained a bail on September 6 after submitting two surety bonds worth Rs100,000.
