Following their comprehensive win over Australia on Tuesday, International Cricket Council’s updated its rankings, placing Mohammad Hafeez's men two places higher into third place with 2009 points.
Sri Lanka, who will now face Pakistan in the semi-finals, retains its spot at the top of the rankings with 1291 points.
India, which was ousted from the Twenty20 World Cup in the Super Eights round, after a mixed tournament, remains second with 1322 points.
Pakistan is currently ranked fourth in the ICC Test rankings, and sixth in the 50-overs format.
