He shivers while relating this incident. It was widely reported and he, like so many others in Afghanistan, holds a Pakistani ID card himself, as do all older members of his family, who spent many years in and around Peshawar refugee camps.
This gruesome twist in an already complicated situation, fraught with danger from so many sides at once, certainly should be of major concern in light of the Pakistan government’s recent decision to repatriate — forcibly, if need be — a large percentage of Afghan refugee families who either arrived in the country after the Soviet invasion of 1979 or fled to ‘safety’ during the days of the Taliban rule.
The majority of such people, save for the illegal refugees, hold Pakistani identification of some kind. It is also a clear indication of how the ‘rules’ are changing and changing fast. Up until now, most people were of the opinion that all Taliban were of Pakistani origin and yet, as this incident highlights, this no longer holds true as the attackers went after those possessing Pakistani identification.
“The Taliban are inhuman,” my friend continues. “And, now that some foreign forces — the French, for example — have or are pulling out of some areas of Afghanistan, these monsters are encouraged to move in, and in the Sarobi area at least, they are being joined by Chechens whose cruelty knows no bounds. Even I, as the fighter that I was and still am, though now in the Afghan National Army, dare not set foot in my own village as the Taliban have sworn to kill all, including their families, who are connected with our government in anyway. To now be in the Afghan National Army or the police is extremely dangerous as not only do you face death in the line of duty on a daily basis, but your family can also be murdered in your absence.”
Over the last few years, it has been customary for serving members of the Afghan National Army and the police force to leave their families safe and secure in Pakistan — if at all possible — whilst they themselves fight for freedom and attempt to uphold law and order at home. However, it appears that this scenario could soon change.
“The murder of these children serves as a warning to us all,” he explains. “If our families are here, they could be killed at any time as a way of terrorising us. There is pressure on us. It is not easy being in the army or the police here and everyone, including you, holding Pakistani identification, will need to tread very, very carefully, indeed or … die!”

@David Smith: "@gp65: At some stage, retired & serving Pakistan military/paramilitary personnel were involved with the Taliban in their military operations. Pakistan supported Afghan Taliban - so to that extent your statement that they may have had a hand in their creation is true. But Afghan Taliban do not attack Pakistan/Pakistanis. This story relates to TTP and muddies the water unnecessarily by not clarifying what she meant. TTP originated in Pakistan and some of them have now escaped to Afghanistan in the last couple of years. This happened as US withdrew forces from some border areas to allow Pakistan to get a taste of its own medicine since Haqqanis (who are a branch of Afghan Taliban) would repeatedly attack NAT forces and scamper back to safety in Pakistan.
Afghanistan, Pakistan and India are all dangerous. India is no better. With grinding poverty, uncontrolled population and pollution, unhygenic and unsanitary measures, I have no doubt that India is a very uncomfortable place, unfortunately but sadly true.
not true. they don't like us in Afghanistan. I have spent a week there and I found out that there is no love for Pakistan because of our role in nurturing the Taliban and interfering in their matters.
@Jamshed: Agree with all u said except for the "red label". No self respecting sheikh would be caught dead with an ounce of red label. It's blue and beyond for them lads in white...
Keep walking .....
Taliban terrorists are a menace on both sides of the border. All they know is death and destruction – even children are fair game for them. No one can deny that the Taliban are the common enemy of both Afghanistan and Pakistan. Defeating this shared threat requires all parties to stand together against them.

Misleading article ! Pakistani Id cards being used to hunt down families , not true. If it was then be prepared for genocide of 3-4 MM afghans who took refuge in Pakistan (ID cards).
@Nadir: "People in Afghanistan love Pakistan, why wouldnt they? We are all Muslims?"
Listen to Amrullah Saleh apeak about Pakistan, listen to that man Abdullah Abdullah or something and you can clear the air about how they feel about you for supporting wars in their country for decades.
If still in doubt, read about the group of kids from FATA who crossed over to picnic by a stream on Eid. They were ALL kidnapped. Some of them slipped away and I believe the journalist Saleem Safi interviewed them too.
Egyptians dont like Pakistanis because we took away the "educated" muslims title away from them. Saudis think you are miskeens (wretches) - read what the Saudi diplomatic staffer did at Islamabad airport and how the airport staff roughed him up becuase of the nasty stuff he was saying.
Check your facts thouroughly before making assertions like "brotherly muslim love". Arabs love dollars - I mean the rich arabs who matter and who make decisions. And thats all they care about. Sharia for you and me, Red label and parties in Monaco for them.
I do not believe a word what the author has written in above article. If Taliban (pakistani? Afghani?) killed three children because their parents had Pakistan ID, so why stop there?. There are millions of Afghan refugee children whose parents have Pakistan ID.
@gp65: At some stage, retired & serving Pakistan military/paramilitary personnel were involved with the Taliban in their military operations. I have been given some figures, but wasn't quite sure how extensive was this co-operation. The statement you quote clarifies the situation somewhat.
how can anyone kill 3 children for the ( percieved) sins of their parents? this is inhuman and insane.
@ Nadir
Kurds are muslims, why do they fight the Turks? Most Palestinians are muslims - why do they fight each other? Why do the Saudis fight the Iranians? Why did the Iraqis fight the Iranians?
Stop this silly thinking that we are muslims and we should be together.
Many Afghans do not like Pakistan. I challenge you to go to Kabul( if not far). Go the streets and ask people how they feel about Pakistan.
For them Pakistan is Punjab and Sindh and they consider Peshawar their own.
The author didnot mention of dangers of holding Pakistani IDs/Passport in foreign airports across the world - a guaranteed invitation to a 2-hour grilling!!
using Taliban cover...
If dead men told tales, Hazaras or Shias from G-B could have thrown light on the topic.
There is no danger of holding a Pakistani ID as long as you are a rightwing political leader or their supporter. Taliban do not kill their own friends, they only target the liberal, secular and democratic elected leaders. After all how many top rightwing leaders have been killed by Taliban vs. PPP and ANP leaders?
Go to any Afghan page on facebook and every Afghan is abusing Pakistan even those, whos profile suggest that they are in Pakistan.
....and Mr. Imran Khan is all in favor of the Taliban!!!! Be careful voters!!!!!!!!
"Up until now, most people were of the opinion that all Taliban were of Pakistani origin and yet, as this incident highlights, this no longer holds true as the attackers went after those possessing Pakistani identification."
Well no-one thought Afghan Taliban was of Pakistani origin. With regards to TTP, yes people believe it is of Pakistani origina and this incident does nothing to change it. After all, they have been attacking Pakistani people and targets all along. SO what is so different about this attack that makes you rethink?
This is a NATO sponsored misinformation campaign! People in Afghanistan love Pakistan, why wouldnt they? We are all Muslims? The Taliban are inhuman? How dare, they are very much the best amongst us who are just fighting a freedom struggle which we should all support.
When Columbus came to America there were 18 million Red Indian in America and in 1893 there were around 600,000 to 250,000 Red Indian left. What happened to them, genocide by white people, and now if America thinks that she can steal $3,000,000,000,000 of poor Afghan, may be yes may be no, time will tell.
