Football: Ferdinand urged to quit England team
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants Rio Ferdinand to disregard an England return.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants Rio Ferdinand to disregard an England return and focus on Manchester United, according to the BBC. John Terry’s verdict to quit international football has raised the prospect of a recall for the Red Devils centre-half, who missed out on Euro 2012. Despite this snub, Ferguson believes international retirement would help extend his Old Trafford career. “Rio could do the job for England, there’s no doubt about that, but I don’t see why he should,” said Ferguson. “He should concentrate on his career here. If he looks after himself there is no reason why he can’t play on.”
