Higher education: Governor assents to bill for Habib University

Sindh Assembly approved the grant of charter to the university in June this year.

KARACHI: The Sindh governor, Ishratul Ebad, has assented to the bill to set up Habib University, Karachi. “It is our basic need that together with the private sector, good universities are established in the metropolis and in the rest of Sindh for the provision of higher education,” Ebad said. A senior faculty member of the university, Sadaf Latafat, said that the university will be fully functional by 2014 and that it will encourage liberal arts and sciences. Sindh Assembly approved the grant of charter to the university in June this year.

New private universities with focus on technology should be established in Karachi. I have heard that the Habib Trust is pusueing this project very keenly. Best of lock to them.

Habib University will be a landmark institution in the region. If Pakistan is to become achieve the dreams of its founders it needs institutions like Habib University.
