KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, has said that if the Supreme Court’s guidelines on maintaining law and order situation in Karachi were implemented in earnest, problems of target killing, extortion and abduction could easily be resolved.

Meeting with a delegation of the Karachi Bar Association in the Supreme Court Branch Registry Building, the chief justice referred to the case filed in 2009 by the Sindh High Court Bar Association, which laid down important principals, including the removal of PCO judges and amendment to the Code of Conduct for judges to debar judges from taking fresh oath under any un-constitutional dispensation.

He also referred to the petition filed by the Balochistan High Court Bar Association on the law and order situation in the province and in particular incidents of kidnapping of lawyers and missing persons. The case is currently being heard by the Supreme Court.

President Karachi Bar Association, Mehmood-ul-Hassan extended support and cooperation for the efforts to establish a system of governance based on respect for law and adherence to the rule of law and supremacy of the constitution.

The chief justice thanked the members for their consistent support of the Bar for the rule of law and supremacy of the constitution in the country.
