LAHORE:

Lahore Tax Bar Association (LTBA) President Zahid Attiq Chaudhry has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to enact proper legislation for stopping the incidents of tax refund fraud cases.

In a statement, Chaudhry stated that only ‘e-intermediary’-registered lawyers work for taxpayers with proper permission from the FBR. He said that according to the Sales Tax Act 2006 only lawyers, chartered accountants and registered tax practitioners could become an ‘e-intermediary’.

They collect all information from the taxpayers and submit it to the FBR. He, however, claimed that lawyers had no method to check or testify the information given by the taxpayers. He said that tax lawyers should not be made part of any enquiries in case of any fraud.
