Women’s World Twenty20: Pakistan Women thrashed in opener

Sana’s team goes down to England by 43 runs.

Pakistan lost their opening match against England by 43 runs in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in Galle, Sri Lanka.

Pakistan captain Sana Mir chose to field after winning the toss but the plan backfired as England piled up 133 for six off their quota. Captain Charlotte Edwards and Laura Marsh smashed 50 off the first six overs but lost the last five wickets for just 20 runs. Mir picked up two for 20 while Sadia Yousuf and Nida Rashid bagged one wicket each.

In reply, batting proved to be a cause for concern once again. Qanita Jalil (14), Nain Abidi (11), Javeria Khan (23) and lower-order batter Batool Fatima (11*) were the only ones to put up a fight, but there were no partnerships of note.

In the other match, Australia beat India by eight wickets.
