KARACHI:

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO) have jointly organised a symposium titled ‘Global Navigation Satellite System and its Application’.

The inaugural session of the symposium was held on Tuesday in which the efficacy of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, a new technology developed in China, was demonstrated for the first time in the world. SUPARCO’s chairman, Major General (retd.) Ahmed Bilal, hosted the event and the Consul General of China in Karachi, Zhang Jianxin, was the chief guest.

In his speech, the chairman said that satellite systems are very useful in many fields, including plate tectonics studies, mining and aviation management. He added that the new technology is spreading very rapidly in Pakistan. SUPARCO is using global navigation satellite systems for monitoring objects remotely and will begin using it for other purposes as well.
