Provincial police have started arresting rioters, who allegedly looted and destroyed government and private properties, on the Yaum-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (pbuh) public holiday.
Police have lodged FIRs against people under different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
FIRs have been registered against Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) former provincial minister Hafiz Hashmat Khan, Amir Baharullah Advocate and Maulana Ismail Darwesh from Jamaat Ahle Sunnat.
They have been charged for allegedly setting ablaze and looting the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Allied Bank Limited, United Bank Limited and Al-Mansoor Hotel branch, Shelton Hotel, Haleem Ghar, Shabistan Cinema and Family Park on GT road as well as other business centres.
The police have also registered an FIR against trade union leader Khalid Ayub and his brother Tariq Ayub for instigating people to attack the US consulate and damaging Muslim Commercial Bank, Meezan Bank, Alfalah Bank, Telenor plaza and a number of business centres.
In another FIR registered by the Peshawar Press Club at Police Station East Cantt, the president of Mutahidda Ulema Council Qari Najeebullah and Safdar Baghi were nominated for damaging the press club building and stealing CCTV cameras from the outer walls.
Meanwhile, West Cantt registered an FIR against 9,500 unidentified men for looting.

All these FIRs will not result in any punishment. Prosecution will fail to produce evidences against the religious leaders. (speeches of religious leaders instigating the people have not been recorded)
