'Management is responsible for scandal'

Ex-chairman PCB, Tauqir Zia has held the national team's management responsible for the spot-fixing scam.

Former Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lieutenant General retired Tauqir Zia has held the national team's management responsible for the spot-fixing scam.

'We need to see if the management monitored the players,' Tauqeer Zia told Express 24/7.

The former PCB chairman said that he had given recommendations to President Rafiq Tarar after the Justice Qayyum report came out. But his recommendations were ignored.

Zia said no examplary punishment was given to the players involved in match fixing in the Justice Qayyum report.

He said that this time it seems as if the players involved in spot-fixing will not be able to deny the charges

Majid | 13 years ago | Reply I do not know if the players are innocent or not - neither do any of us, so we should not judge them yet. But The Guardian Newspaper in the UK has just ran a story Thursday 2 September 2010 17.28 BST - written by James Robinson - http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/sep/02/mp-news-of-the-world-inquiry - It details that The News of The World paper which made the video of the betting scam uses illegal phone tappings of many public figures in the UK. Keyword here is 'ILLEGAL', this is a news paper which belongs to Rupert Murdochs News Corp. Group, and I want you to all to take a look at the where the allegations against the players have stemmed from. How can you trust a News paper which uses illegal methods to make headlines and sell papers. Before I read this story I thought wrongly of Pakistan's cricketers too, but having read this story in The Guardian newspaper about the Illegal activities of the News of the World Paper, I am now not going to jump on the bandwagon against the players, and I think they have been setup, just like Wajid Hassan says. Please take a look at the story in The Guardian newspaper's website, and The New York Times has also reported on the illegal activities of Rupert Murdochs newspaper.

Faisal Shaji | 13 years ago | Reply Look this is the reason why good players such as Faisal Iqbal, Khurram Manzoor, poor Fawad Alam (played only three tests), Taufeeq Umar and Hafeez were ignored just to make room for either silent and gulliable voices or to keep a corrupt league unfortunately headed by Waqar Younus and Salman Butt. Look this it the reason why ZulfiqaR Haider, despite performing well was sent home. Look this the reason why Younus Khan was kept out. Do not forget that Aaqib Javed accepted fixing allegations infront of the cricket board tribunal at the time of the Australian tour. But alas all went on deaf ears. Tauqeer Zia, Rashid Latif and Aamer Sohail are best people to head cricket board at the moment with Iqbal Qasim as chairman selector.

Akbar | 13 years ago | Reply Very true . PCB knew the ever controvertial relations between the 2 cricket boards yet it agreed to play against AUS in ENG. Till the AUS series,the British media supported Pak against them but then it showed its true color. Pak performance on the tour is by no means compatible with performance of a national team. PCB administration is the main culprit in this whole saga because of its indecision & promotion of nepotism. It doesnot mean that if the allegations are proved Pak team should be spared. NO, Pak team needs to be disbanded irrespective of the status,calibre or class of the players. We as a nation,has suffered heartbreaks & humiliation at their hands. But since British Media has always been involved in mud slinging,it needs indepth investigations & handing out of exemplary punishment to those found guilty. It would have been better that Pak had recalled its team from UK after their PM,s unwarranted statement about Pak in India.

Saleem Siddiqi | 13 years ago | Reply Due to their performance BUTT, Akmal, Asif and party do not have a bright future within Pakisan Cricket Team. Therefore these players might have thought to hit a jack pot and be part of Match fixing to earn a heaven in one go. After earning a huge buck, they will not be needed to play again. Now Scotland yard is invesigating and have arrested one person. Since the crime occurred abroad, it will not be easy for BCCP to hush up the matter. We will soon have a crystal clear picture soon. Culprits do need exemplary punishment as suggested by scribe so that no body else in Pakisan Team would dare to even think of such a grave crime. Regards Dr. Saleem Siddiqi Qatar
