Karachi factory fire: Court grants protective bail to owners till October 1

ISLAMABAD: Ali Enterprises’ owners Abdul Aziz Bhaila and his sons Arshad Bhaila and Shahid Bhaila were granted protective bail on surety bonds of Rs 0.5 million, each, by Lahore High Court’s  Rawalpindi bench on Thursday.

They were granted bail until October 1 by Justice Mamoon Sheikh.

Talking to The Express Tribune, their lawyer Sardar Mohammad Ishaq Khan said that the plea submitted stated that since an earlier bail sought from Sindh High Court’s circuit bench in Larkana was expiring on Friday and due to tomorrow being a national holiday alongwith senior Bhaila’s sudden decline in health in Islamabad, the three had to stay back.

The Bhailas were in Islamabad for some personal work.

“Abdul Aziz Bhaila and his sons had come to Islamabad for some work, when he developed some heart problem and had to be admitted at Kulsoom Heart Hospital. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and his sons are with him.  Hence they couldn’t return to Larkana on Friday and had to approach LHC’s Pindi bench,” the lawyer said.

The bail amount of 5lakh is peanut. It should be 10crore foe each of them.

I have been reading the gazillion articles written in the press and find that in everyone of them the Government is slated to be held responsible for the tragedy. Why aren't the factory owners being held responsible, they have earned millions on the backs of those that were killed without providing their workers with the proper safety measures, rumour has it, that the owners were informed about the fire and their first reaction was to ask the security staff to secure the premises i.e. lock the doors so that nothing was stolen. Why has no one queried the fact that the doors were sealed and that there was no way these poor people had a chance of getting out. I personally hold the owners completely responsible for the innocent lives lost. These human being were their responsibility, and they failed them.
