Australian High Commissioner requests Pakistan to immediately stop culling sheep

Australia says blood samples of sheep should be tested in international laboratories.

KARACHI:
The Australian High Commissioner requested Pakistan on Wednesday to immediately halt culling imported sheep as they were perfectly fine in health.

Australia has also demanded that the blood samples of the sheep be sent to international laboratories for tests so it can be made sure that the sheep are not ill.

On Tuesday, the Sindh High Court had stayed the culling of the thousands of sheep imported from Australia and constituted a committee headed by Secretary Sindh Livestock Department to collect fresh samples from the animals.

The order was given on a petition filed by the importer who claimed that the Islamabad-based Research and Safety Laboratory had declared the sheep as ‘clean of any disease’, and contended that the government authorities collected samples of sheep without permission.
