World’s first mother-to-daughter uterus transplant
Two Swedish women, whose names are yet to be revealed, might be able to give birth through wombs which will carry the babies.
Doctors said that the operation will not be declared successful until women achieve pregnancy, adding that the women had started in-vitro fertilisation before the surgery.
"We are not going to call it a complete success until this results in children," said Michael
Olausson, one of the Swedish surgeons said adding that pregnancy would the "best proof."
Doctors further said that their frozen embryos will be thawed and transferred after medical tests.
According to sources, doctors are not expecting any complications during the operation.
Both the women are aged in their 30s. One patient was born with a uterus, while the other had it removed.
“Both are doing fine but are tired after surgery. The donating mothers are up and walking and will be discharged from the hospital within a few days," said Mats Brannstorm, the team leader.
