Pakistan Steel expansion plan to be finalised soon

Pakistan, Russia likely to sign MoU next month.

KARACHI: Officers of Pakistan Steel Mills (PS) have expressed the hope that Russia and Pakistan will finalise details of the mill’s expansion plan in upcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking at a briefing on the expansion plan, Pervaiz Iqbal, Acting Principal Executive Officer (BMR&E), said the increase in production capacity would open new doors of prosperity for Pakistan, according to a press release issued on Monday. In this regard, he said, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was likely to be signed between Pakistan and Russia during Putin’s trip next month.

The briefing coincided with the 362nd meeting of PS board of directors, which discussed the business plan, marketing strategy and expansion project.

PS Chief Executive Major General (Retd) Muhammad Javed, while briefing about the marketing and sales plan, said PS was trying to use available inventory of products and working in line with market demand.

The board also discussed the progress of business plan and stressed the need for its effective implementation to achieve targets.

It was decided that support plans in terms of logistics arrangement, production cycle and market forecast should be developed to ensure success of the business plan.
