The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) on Saturday began an internal assessment of its performance in three divisions of Punjab in order to prepare for the upcoming general elections.
Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune a high- level party meeting at the Raiwind residence in Lahore on Saturday, presided over by Nawaz Sharif, assessed the reports of three different surveys of Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal divisions, which termed the PML-N’s performance well below par to that of other areas of the province.
Some party members have been assigned the task of carrying out the recommendations drawn up so far. According to sources, the surveys were carried out to suggest ways of improving the party’s performances in the mentioned divisions. They were conducted by the Special Branch of the Punjab Police, private authorities and by the party itself to evaluate the performance of PML-N office bearers who were nominated for these divisions.
The mandate of the Special Branch of the Punjab Police was to check the performance of PML-N lawmakers in the divisions and to evaluate whether they were involved in the embezzlement of development funds. The survey conducted by the private authorities was to counter-check the report of the Special Branch and to keep a watch on differences, if any, among PML-N office bearers. The mandate of the party’s survey was to visit those constituencies where the PML-N has no representation and to search for a candidate to contest the elections for the constituencies on the PML-N’s ticket.
According to the facts, out of the 39 in the National Assembly allocated to Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal divisions, the party currently holds 9 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party holds 23 seats, the PML-Quaid has 6 seats and PML-Functional has one seat.
The party’s survey teams have also succeeded in negotiating with potential candidates from other political parties for the mentioned divisions. The sources added that Nawaz has given the go-ahead to the members of the committee who conducted the survey to finalise their negotiations with the candidates to join the PML-N.

Allah bless Pakistan. Allah bless Nawaz Sharif. Our last hope is Nawaz Sharif.
Dying to win, searching winners not honest politicians. Shameful conduct of PMLN.
This is exactly how a political party should function. I want to point outto some of our less able commentators that there is a whole article after the first line. Did you read why special branch was used? To check whether the PML N politicians were involved in any corruption.
Insha-Allah PML N will sweep the elections!
i dont wish that PTI wins the coming election. i love imran khan. i love his philanthropy. i admire his talent and will power. but i hate his politics of severe crticism and allegations against his opponents. i am sick of his attitude. i dont like nawaz and zardari. but as a muslim, i condemn character assasination, even if its against bitterest opponent
atleast someone is trying to grab some seats from ppp. i don't want to see ppp-mqm-anp coming to power again. k. saad rafiq has made a good proposal in geo tv (lekin). if it was done then we can vote fearlessly without the fear of ppp coming again in power. but pti is denying to accept it, making its own voters more conscious.
@Tribal Insafian: "... to evaluate whether they were involved in the embezzlement of development funds."
That is the job of police btw, and indirectly saves tax-payers money because corruption is one of the biggest wastage of tax money
All of you who are dying to praise PMLN: did it even occur to you that they HAVE ABUSED POLICE DEPARTMENT for their gains? But obviously, PMLN are beyond any mistakes as you folks are devoid of any critical analysis.
Re. assessment, if it's genuine it should lead to disbandment of the party...but shah ur shah key ghulam...:)
@Arshad ali: PMLN will win almost 50% Seats in Southern Punjab Divisions.
Wishful thinking... huh? Party itself is alarmed with its own performance, and you are dreaming of 100% increase in the number of their seats.
@Logical your logic is so funny!
we are with you PML N and will help also in identifying culprits
PMLN will win almost 50% Seats in Southern Punjab Divisions.
In Dera Ghazi Khan and Dera Ismail Khan where Baloch live they give votes on the basis of Ethnicity. Zardari is a Baloch so their vote goes to Zardari based on Baloch. Some of these same tribes live in Bahawalpur division who want to separation from Punjab based on their racist views and it is not all about Performance that determine votes in South Punjab. Next time as well Baloch card will be played to divide Punjab and to get votes and this cycle will continue.
Good work by pmln before elections
Good that they have woken up to this!!!
A bit slow off mark ...but better late than never.
"Special Branch"? PMLN's party assessment tool? or taxpayer-fed public organization? No wonder our intelligence failures are mounting - with Special Branch (Police Intel Wing) busy in making political assessments for the rulers. Doesn't this nation need "Pity"?
