Capacitors’ installation: 40 IESCO engineers trained
ISLAMABAD:
More than 40 engineers of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company’s (IESCO) Rawalpindi Circle were briefed on the installation of low tension (LT) capacitors on tube wells on Thursday. “The installation of capacitors will reduce power demand, improve voltage and reduce technical losses,” said Dick Dumford, who is the chief technical adviser on the USAID’s Power Distribution Programme that organised the training. A press statement issued by the USAID said they hope the project will save 20% of the electricity consumed by tube wells in the IESCO region. USAID Power Distribution Programme is a four-and-a-half-year programme that aims to work jointly with government-owned power distribution companies to improve their performance. The agency has already installed 1,500 capacitors, which have resulted in an estimated power saving of 5.5 megawatt.
