ISLAMABAD:

To improve the understanding of environmental impact of development, there is a need to upgrade the curricula for environmental impact assessment (EIA).

Environmentalists made this suggestion at a workshop titled “Improvement of EIA Curricula of Tertiary Level Academic Institutions” on Thursday.

The main objective of the event was to explore and identify gaps, discuss key points of a standardised core curriculum and to reflect on teaching aspects that cannot be standardised. An EIA curriculum will be designed based on the feedback received from the universities teaching EIA.

The workshop was conducted by Prof Dr Thomas Fischer, an expert in Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and EIA from the University of Liverpool. He has the experience of developing the EIA Curricula in both developed and undeveloped countries.
