Land grabbing case: SC orders for postponing Riaz's arrest

Riaz's counsel Aitzaz Ahsan argues that IHC hearing the case has not reserved judgement yet.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered that the arrest of business tycoon Malik Riaz against a warrant issued by an anti-corruption court be postponed till September 20, Express News reported.

Riaz and his accomplices were booked by the Anti-Corruption Establishment in two FIRs on the charge of acquiring 1,401 kanals of land near Rawat on fake and forged documents in 2009. Riaz was ordered to be arrested by September 15.

Today, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan appeared before a two-member bench headed by Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan on behalf of Riaz and argued that the hearing of the case was underway at the Islamabad High Court, which hasn’t reserved its judgement as yet.

Ahsan informed the court that only the prosecutor general had completed his arguments in the case.

Talking to the media later during the day, Ahsan said, “Bahria Towm itself had registered a FIR of fraud. A fraud of worth Rs80-85 million was done with Bahria Town. My client had registered an FIR in February.”

He added that not a single inch of land was taken from Kalat after the fraud was unearthed.
