Pakistan to decide on N Waziristan operation: Zardari, Kayani

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani have vowed that the decision to launch a military operation in North Waziristan will be made by the army and the government of Pakistan and not on any external pressure.

In a meeting held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday, Zardari and General Kayani concluded that no involvement from an outside force would be accepted if there is an operation.

Briefing the president, the army chief said that the area has been cleared of militants.

He also briefed the president on his meeting with US deputy secretary of defence Peter Lavoy, along with chairman joint chiefs of staff committee Khalid Shamim Wynne.
