Export figures: Cement, gems, jewellery exports higher

About 545,125 tons of cement, worth $46.197 million, were exported during the month of July, 2012.

ISLAMABAD: Cement exports from the country during the first month of the current financial year have registered an increase of 18.23%, as compared to the same month of the previous year, according to figures from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. About 545,125 tons of cement, worth $46.197 million, were exported during the month of July, 2012; against the export of 740,592 tons worth $39.074 million in July 2011. The export of cement has, however, declined as compared with the preceding month. It was recorded at 612,500 tons, worth $52.064 million, in August, 2012. The export of gems and jewellery in the same period has registered an increase of 9.96% and 143.78% respectively as compared to the same period last year. About one ton of gems, worth $0.265 million, and jewellery worth $195.7 million were exported in the month.
