On Thursday (September 13), all shutters across Sindh will be pulled down in protest against the new local government system, said the Sindh Bachayo Committee convener and the Sindh United Party chief Jalal Mahmood Shah raising his fist in the air.
“This ordinance is an administrative attack on the unity of Sindh. This is a conspiracy against the people of Sindh, and the person behind this is President Asif Ali Zardari.”
Before Shah’s press conference at Haider Manzil on Friday, leaders from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl), National Peoples Party, SUP, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Jeay Sindh Mahaz, Sindh National Movement and Jeay Sindh Tehreek, attended a meeting where they decided that the government was not making decisions in favour of Sindh.
“This is the second attempt by the government to divide Sindh by issuing extra constitutional and illegal oridnances,” said the SUP chief. “This is an act of treason. The governor, minister for local bodies and other members of the cabinet should be tried and sentenced to capital punishment.” He added that according to the constitution, the health, education and police departments could not be transferred to municipal authorities.
Criticising the ruling party, Shah said that they [the nationalists] would continue to reject the dual system which was only facilitating the Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement. “Sindh and its people will not accept such a draconian law,” he said. “We will fight it with all strength. We need a local government system based on municipal functions and community development. This new ordinance is a ploy to abuse the sovereignty of Sindh.”
Other members of the committee said that the government intended to appoint political administrators to sabotage the electoral process.
The Awami National Party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) did not attend the meeting even though they were invited. A source in the SUP claimed that PTI was not clear where it stood in Sindh or its issues.

@Imran: Well i care. But everyone is just making a farce out of the local bodies. The fact is that everything including police should come under the local bodies completely. Including the monetary holdings of it. Not so sure about health and education. But being under comissioners and civil servants is just a poor choice that no sane man should approve of.
who cares?
We need a local government system based on municipal functions and community development. This new ordinance is a ploy to abuse the sovereignty of Sindh. It should not control health, police and educational department.
