Targeted: SP Investigation gunned down in Quetta

As soon as SP Jamil Kakar left his house, unknown men on a motorbike intercepted his car and opened fire at him.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation was gunned down near his residence located in the Kili Gul Muhammad area of Quetta early Friday morning, Express News reported.

According to police account, as soon as SP Jamil Kakar left his house, unknown assailants on a motorbike intercepted his car and opened fire at him.

He died on the spot, while his guard sustained injuries in the incident.

SP Kakar’s body has been shifted to Combined Military Hospital in Quetta.

“Jamil Kakar died on the spot. We are investigating the motives of the attack,” Salim Lahri, another senior police official in Quetta told AFP.


“The attackers fled on the motorcycle, we have launched a search for their arrest.”

Officials said Kakar was investigating several sectarian attacks and that he had received threats in the recent past.

The deceased police official was posted at Barori Road Police Station in Quetta as a Deputy Superintendent of Police. Kakar was later promoted to the post of SP and was transferred to Saryab Road Police Station.

A heavy contingent of police was called on the incident site.

The police have been frequently coming under attack in Quetta, several police personnel have been killed while several have sustained injuries in targeted killings and bomb blasts.
