ISLAMABAD: It is not necessary to put in a lot of hard work in making students understand what you teach; a little more creativity, mime and performance can make your classroom more alive and informative. This was stated by Kathleen Mulligan, a Fulbright scholar and assistant professor at Department of Theatre Arts, Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, during a workshop on speech, voice and the theatre at National University of Modern Languages on Wednesday. Mulligan stressed the importance of speech and voice in teaching and gave practical demonstration of how speech can be modulated for maximum effect. She pointed out that most people do not realise the fact that they put the throat in stress while teaching or talking or speaking in the public. The most interesting part of the workshop was when Mulligan asked participants to perform a mime for others to guess.
