MIRPUR:

Result of the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (HSSC) Part-II announced on Tuesday was reminiscent of the Secondary School Certificate Part-II examinations announced earlier this year in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The top three positions were again clinched by students of Kashmir Medical College (KMC) Mirpur, while students of private institutions again outperformed those of public institutes.

The AJK Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (AJK BISE) Mirpur revealed that 17 of the top 20 positions in this year’s HSSC Part-II exam were grabbed by students of private colleges. Eight of the top 20 positions were awarded to students of KMC Mirpur, while Government Model Science College Muzaffarabad was the only public-sector institute whose students were part of the top 20 scorers.

Names of the high-achieving students were announced by AJK Education Minister (Colleges) Muhammad Matloob Inqlabi during a ceremony. Sara Saghir Kiani of the pre-medical group stood first in the annual exam; Tahreem Masoud of the pre-engineering group stood second; while Ayesha Bhatti, also of the pre-medical group, stood third. The girls secured 1,030, 1,017, and 1,011 marks respectively out of a total of 1,100 and are all students of the Kashmir Model College Mirpur.

AJK BISE Controller Examination (Colleges) Prof. Abdul Razaq informed that only 42.50% (15,924) of the 37,472 students who sat the annual exam passed. He said the pass percentage was 58.88 for regular candidates and 26.50 for private candidates, adding that 1,494 registered candidates but did not sit the exam. He said the detailed result of all candidates will be announced on Tuesday at 9:30am and will also be made available at the board’s website (http://www.ajkbise.net).

The ceremony was presided over by AJK BISE Mirpur Chairman Prof. Muhammad Afzal Mirza and was attended by the top 20 position holders, their parents and the heads of their respective colleges.

Prof. Razaq requested heads of the colleges whose students are among the top 20 scorers to collect result cards of their students by hand from September 6.

He said that regular candidates seeking to obtain their result cards directly from the board office are requested to provide an authority letter from the head of their concerned college. Successful candidates are to contact Controller Examination Colleges if they do not receive their result cards within 30 days.
