ISLAMABAD: “The government has proposed Rs60 billion for export development initiatives in the upcoming three-year Strategic Trade Policy Framework 2012-15 which is insufficient to boost our exports and make them competitive with the regional competitors,” Yassar Sakhi Butt, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) said on Tuesday. He proposed to the government to announce sufficient funds for the export development initiative. He said that the country’s exports stood at $23.64 billion at the end of the fiscal year 2011-12 as against the exports of $24.81 billion in the corresponding period last year, registering a decrease of 4.71%. “Therefore, the government should facilitate exports by announcing suitable funds for export development initiatives,” he maintained.
