Reshuffle: Sayeeda Warsi loses job as co-chair of Conservative Party

Warsi had requested British PM Cameron to let her maintain her post.

In his first government reshuffle that began Monday night, British Prime Minister David Cameron removed Baroness Sayeeda Warsi as the co-chairperson of the Conservative Party, Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday.

After her removal from the post, Warsi announced that she was stepping down in a message posted on the official account of co-Chairman of the Conservative Party:

It's been a privilege and an honour to serve my party as co-chairman, signing off @ToryChairman , signing on @sayeedawarsi

Earlier, she had appealed to Cameron to let her maintain her post in order to win seats in the North. Warsi told Daily Telegraph: “I’m a woman, I’m not white, I’m from an urban area, I’m from the North, I’m working class – I kind of fit the bill. All the groups that we’re aiming for are groups that I’m familiar with.”

The British Prime Minister will continue shuffling ministerial jobs today.
