PESHAWAR:

A body was found dumped in a plot in Hayatabad Phase VII on Monday, in the 26th such incident in nearly a month.

Around 22 bodies were found in the month of August alone. Peshawar High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Dost Muhammad Khan had taken suo motto notice of the issue, but the matter remains unresolved.

Most bodies have been found dumped in deserted fields and plots near Charsadda Road, with marks of torture and bullet wounds.

“The man has been identified as Ikramullah, a resident of Shabqadar,” said a Tatara police officer. The officer said that the man was shot dead. He added an FIR would be registered only when the relatives of the victim arrived.

The CJ has sought an explanation from the chief secretary of the province, the additional secretary of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and other high-ranking officials by September 12. The inspector general and the chief police officer have also been summoned before the court.
