NOWSHERA:

A local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), Muhammad Ali Khan, was gunned down allegedly by his business partner near Sorya Khel on Saturday.

Police said that Ali, who was formerly the district counsellor of Swabi, was on his way to Sorya Khel from Tordher with his son, Sadarat Khan, and relative, Amjad, to receive a large amount of cash from his business partner, who is also named Amjad. Before they could reach Sorya Khel, his business partner along with accomplices ambushed them and sprayed a volley of bullets on their vehicle.

They were taken to District Headquarters Hospital where Ali was pronounced dead, while his son and his relative were referred to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar due to their critical condition.

Police registered a First Information Report against Amjad, Bilal, Mustaqeem and an unidentified assailant on information provided by the deceased leader’s son. Police raided the houses of the accused but they had already fled.

Akora Khattak Police Station Senior House Officer (SHO) Fazal Subhan quoted Sadarat as saying that his father ran a car dealership on Jehangira-Swabi Road with Amjad, who owed him Rs5 million.

He said he was accompanying his father to visit Amjad at his residence in Sorya Khel, where he had called him to hand over the amount he owned. He said that Amjad had earlier kept delaying the payment on one pretext or the other.

He told the police that Amjid used to run the car dealership with his grandfather, but after he passed away, his father took over the business.
