Court of arbitration closes hearings into Kishenganga dam

International Court of Arbitration to render award in the arbitration within six months.

THE HAGUE: The International Court of Arbitration on Friday closed two weeks of hearings into an arbitration put forward by Pakistan on the construction of the Kishenganga dam by India on the Neelam River.

Pakistan had instituted arbitral proceedings on May 17, 2010, against India under Paragraph 2(b) of Annexure G to the Indus Waters Treaty 1960.

The court on September 23, 2011 ordered a temporary suspension of the Kishenganga dam construction.

After hearing arguments from both sides, receiving written pleadings and making two visits to the site, the court said it would render an award in six months from the close of hearings.
