Football: ‘Berbatov’s not worth our city’

Fiorentina blasted Dimitar Berbatov after the Manchester United striker turned down a move to the Italian club following Fulham showing an interest in signing the player. Fiorentina said that it had agreed a deal with United and already paid the first installment of the transfer fee for the former Bulgaria international, according to the BBC. “He’s not worthy of our city, our shirt and the values it represents,” said the statement. “The player embarked in the company of his agent and with tickets paid by us. But the player never arrived. This was owing to the reckless and arrogant actions of other clubs. As for the player, not withstanding his characteristics and technical merit, at this point we are happy that he did not come to Fiorentina.” Berbatov had his medical with Fulham yesterday and is set to join the club.
