ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued notices to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman and environment member over encroachments in public parks. CDA Chairman Farkhand Iqbal and Environment Member Mian Waheeduddin will have to submit their comments by a date to be fixed by the registrar’s office. According to petitioner Vice Admiral (retd) Muhammad Ahmed Tasnim, a resident of sector F-7/3, different parties have built illegal shops in various public parks. He alleged that the respondents are protecting the encroachers and requested the court to direct them to remove these encroachments. He told the court that people cannot go to the public parks to relax due to these “huge” encroachments. Several similar petitions have been filed in the IHC by city residents against encroachments and the concerned departments were served notices. However encroachments continue to thrive in parks across the city.
