RAWALPINDI:

Prayer leaders were urged to spread awareness about dengue virus in their Friday sermons by Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal on Wednesday.

“The ulema and religious scholars should hold forums and deliver lectures on the importance of cleanliness, as it is the only [way] to tackle the [threat posed by] dengue virus,” he said during a meeting with a delegation of District Peace Committee (DPC) members.

He appealed to them to teach people about cleanliness around their homes to prevent mosquitoes from using the areas as breeding grounds.

DPC Chairman Maulana Syed Izhar Hussain Bukhari assured cooperation from the ulema and religious scholars.

He said they will highlight precautionary measures about dengue in their Friday sermons to keep people alert about the potentially deadly virus and its insect carriers.

The meeting was attended by Maulana Muhammad Akram Humdani, Maulana Mehmoodul Hassan Balakoti, Maulana Amin Sialvi, Allama Ishfaq Waheedi and other religious scholars.
