Mr Memon begins with a lecture on journalism. Coming from a just-born politician, basically an unknown commodity, his pontificating on ethics and sacrifices made by senior journalists comes across as nonsensical. What does he know about journalism? But I don’t blame him, as he is a non-entity, a pawn who has to carry out the orders and follow His Master’s Voice and get slaughtered when needed. He has, in the process, gathered some stray hearsay points and someone has put together for him a confused and disjointed piece. His article is a reflection of what his Boss thinks, not what the facts are.
For readers of this newspaper, let me first very briefly restate the points that I mentioned in my original article so that readers can understand the context of his rantings. I had stated that cronies, non-political friends, agents, providers, doctors, masseurs, of President Asif Ali Zardari had all been involved in numerous scams in the last over four years of the PPP regime and before they escape, should be placed on the exit control list and debriefed and asked some tough questions. Many would sing songs no one has ever have heard before.
Mr Memon says there is an independent judiciary and many of the people I named have already faced the courts. Mentioning the independence of judiciary from Mr Memon, who is, of course, relaying what his Boss wants, is a joke, as we all know what the PPP has done to judgments of this “independent judiciary”.
He speaks of the Charter of Democracy and on that he should ask Mr Rehman Malik who acknowledged on TV that I had suggested the idea to Benazir Bhutto and I have proof of that.
Mr Memon also quoted a couple of my articles to claim that I am not a credible analyst. If he believes that to be the case, then why react in this way and spread my word even more? Some points that he has been fed are total lies. For instance, he quotes from an alleged December 8, 2011 article by me about President Zardari’s heart ailment and that he (the president) may not return to Pakistan from Dubai. There is no such article but a story in The News quoting the Foreign Policy magazine’s blog which quoted an unnamed former US official who said “Mr Zardari might resign because of ill health after being pushed out of power by the Pakistani military”. Mr Memon, of course, would not know the difference.
One line in his response is absolutely correct: “There is, indeed, financial corruption in Pakistan”. But he says no one outside Pakistan should talk about it and in a way threatens me to return to Pakistan and then carry out the crusade. He says I have ulterior motives. Nonsense. I do my job and have done it for years in the same way whether a dictator, Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif or anyone else was in power. This is what I will go on doing, whether Mr Memon or his Boss likes it or not.

guys! lets not bash ET, they've done a great job by publishing this article. now we know the caliber, maturity and bias of an editor of a wide circulating paper. this is the reality, many among us are morally and ethically corrupt; lets admit it and look for corrective measures...
Just garbage.
I was aghast when I read his column brazenly inviting army to take over for one year soon after elections, to 'clear' the past mess.Which general in the world has taken over the control of the country and then let it revert to political government. Generals always kick out and get kicked out. Period. What kind of journalist , are you Mr Sehbahi who has such an unshakable faith in the Pakistani generals?
Why do you write only on Mr. Zardari? why not others???
Worst Ever Article ................
Going through the comments, and it becomes evident that ET readers prefer just one side of the story. Whoever tends to disagree faces similar comments. The language used by the author can be justified to some extent if one has bothered reading what he's responding to.
You may feel you are not biased - but let it put this way when I see your article in any newspaper I quickly move on to the next article as I know what I will find in your article.
An Independent voice like ET? Independent? Seriously?
I am actually more amused than annoyed at the language His Highness Mr Sehbai has chosen for an elected representative and the derogatory manner he uses to address the issues surrounding this 'clarification'.
Your style and your intellect is more suited to urdu language newspapers whose readers might be used to such mud racking. Please spare us the trouble.
Simply pathetic! Non sense and absolute waste of space on ET page. Very disappointing!
a biased mind set.
Am flabbergasted not upon what Mr. S. Sehbai has written but on how the ET has published such a stale loath of journalism.
Non entity like Sharjeel... ouch
This kind of vitriolic, contemptuous and pompous Op Ed does not suit ET. It may belong to some other newspaper but not an independent voice like ET. My only advise is even in anger people should not lose their civility not let their ego get the better of them. These are the five minutes of my life wasted that I am never going to get back.
When anyone makes such serious allegations they should provide evidence for people to make their own objective judgment. Mr. Sehbai on the other hand works with different set of standards having made statements that cross all boundaries of civility yet fails to present proof to back his allegations. Such a phenomena can be described as "yellow journalism".
Mr. Sehbai, a little wit and some sarcasm might have made this so much more elegant. Ranting and raving are not things which professionals should be engaging in.
Mr Shaheen Sehbai's opposition to the political government of PPP and open support for the military take-over became evident within a few months of elections. He wrote in one of his pieces then that the mess created by the military can be cleaned by them alone and in no minced words he suggested intervention of armed forces' in politics.
No human being is a perfect devil or a perfect angel. Same is the case with Mr Asif Zardari.but going through your articles, one may believe that there is absolutely nothing right him. it proves that either you are settling some personal score with him or following a preplanned agenda. In any case, you are extremely biased and not doing justice to your profession.
Biased Journalist Award goes to you. You started Mediagate by giving Interview against CJ's son and you have been targeting PPP in every article. A senior analyst should show some honesty and fairness, not an agenda to malign any party or institution due to personal reasons.
"Coming from a just-born politician, basically an unknown commodity, his pontificating on ethics and sacrifices made by senior journalists comes across as nonsensical. What does he know about journalism? But I don’t blame him, as he is a non-entity, a pawn -"
If you didn't say he was a "pawn" people would accuse you of being jealous. You do believe he's a pawn, don't you? You're not just saying it to blind us to your true motive, right?
