All it took was four minutes for five men to round up Rs4.7 million from a bank in Shireen Jinnah Colony and make their way out as swiftly as they had come in. This was the 12th bank robbery of this year.
At least five armed bandits barged into the United Bank Limited branch at around 3:30pm on Monday. Three of them guarded the doors, while the other two collected cash from the cashier and the strong room.
Mohammad Zulfiqar, the inquiry officer, told The Express Tribune that the men entered the bank posing as customers. They overpowered the security guards and snatched their weapons before looting the money at gunpoint.
The bandits had apparently came on-foot, as no vehicle was spotted outside the bank by its staff, the police officer said. The robbers did not however take away the footage of the closed-circuit television cameras installed at the bank.
The police have obtained the video footage for investigation.
Police sources said that the security guards of the bank have been detained for interrogation for their suspected involvement, but the case officer said that the police have not detained anyone. No case was registered.
