Afghanistan’s spy agency said on Sunday that the operational commander of the al Qaeda-linked Haqqani network responsible for spectacular attacks on Kabul had been killed in a US drone strike in Pakistan.
“We confirm that Badruddin Haqqani, who was the mastermind of almost all sophisticated attacks in Kabul, was killed in a drone strike,” National Directorate of Security spokesman Lutfullah Mashal told AFP.
“Our information is based on interception of the conversation of the guys (Haqqani members) on the ground who confirmed he was dead,” Mashal said.
The death of Badruddin, the son of Haqqani network founder Jalaluddin Haqqani, has been rumoured for days but has been denied by the Taliban, to which the network is allied.
“This is propaganda of the enemy. Badruddin is alive and he will soon talk to the media,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told AFP.
“He is inside Afghanistan and busy with operations,” he said.

If you expect a down to the earth response from others shouldn’t you be on the earth in the first place? No matter it’s you or me, our personal enigma’s like pains, agony, rudeness, arrogance are entirely our personal traits, why to blame others for not taking care of the fallout of our moods!!
Should anyone bound to care about you tolerances? Brother, if you need a rational opinion about your post then you need to be requesting others rather than being instructive & suggestive.
It’s not necessary for others to see world with your eyes, should they? One should respect others opinions regardless they are suitable or not.
ET provides us a healthy atmosphere to share our opinions & thoughts subject to strict moderation (sometimes irritatingly strict). What generally people do is to start bashing others putting aside the topic and expecting others to get impressed by their intellectual approach and power of writing.
Okay then, it’s time to say goodbye because ahead of this point we would be getting personal, that might be less interesting for the moderator too BTW. Take good care of yourself!
@Rana:
I did offer my sincere apologies nevertheless at the end of my comment, which was unfortunately edited by ET Moderator.
@Hasan Mehmood:
After visiting your mentioned link for another post, I came to the conclusion that you are trying to repudiate all other commentators and forcing them to accept your point of view by stretching the argument illogically, which clearly states in which mindset you are. Please fix an earliest date with your nearest psychologist. Do you have any idea about difference of opinion?
Get a life man!!
@Rana: {I am not sure, but still have tried to clarify my point}
Rana sahib you have miserably failed. If you really mean what you said about TTP, then why you are not advocating their ruthless elimination, taking out rallies and calling for the head of TTP spokesman Ehsanullah which is a flesh and blood entity and not a figment of imagination like RAW agent and why you are not baying for the blood of those providing transport and temporary residence to militants.. Please respond to my letter for which I am desperately waiting for rebuttal http://tribune.com.pk/story/425705/the-hypocrisy-of-taliban-apologists/
I approve of all forces resisting USA occupation, but they have no right to use my territory and endanger my country stability. I dont mind if Haqqani / Afghan Taliban completely shift to Afghan soil and drive Americans out. You just cannot let someone attack another country and come back to your soil and then cry over drone attacks. UNLESS YOU ARE TEES MAR KHAN which you are not.
@Hasan Mehmood:
TTP and its sponsors mainly consist of illegitimate offspring of devil; they have nothing to do with any religion. They are professional killers with cannibal ascent. Their only motive is to destroy the piece of the world and to harm the humanity as much as they can. These monstrous creatures are not bound to a specific region.
Now coming to the point, the real Taliban are still giving tough time to US and allies, they are fighting for their homeland to lead a normal life, shouldn’t they? This group of Taliban refused to bow down against US, therefore being targeted. Unfortunately our retarded leadership has succumbed to the US pressure and facilitating them in this course.
My dear if some attack your house putting aside all the charters, rules and regulation, would you be in the position or bound to follow the rules then?
I am not sure, but still have tried to clarify my point.
@Hasan Mehmood:
You don't need to apply common sense at all, just refer to the reply of @Khan to my initial post.
@Rana: Your sarcasm went over my head. What exactly are you trying to convey?
@Khan:
Mr. Khan, your sniffer sense is appreciable!! You might be an American I guess?
@Rana: Your hate for America is dripping from your post.
Well tip-off by Pak spies! Keep obeying the masters!!
