Unfit for consumption: Poisonous alcohol claims over a dozen lives

The hospital denied having received any patient with such complaints.

HYDERABAD: Over a dozen people have died in separate incidents after drinking toxic liquor in Badin, Tando Allahyar and Tando Muhammad Khan over the last week.

Seven more deaths were reported on Saturday from these districts as an excise and taxation team reached Tando Allahyar to assess the situation.

The dead were identified as 50 year-old-Jabbar Shaikh, Asghar Khan Nizamani, 42, Muhammad Saleh, 31 and Noor Muhammad Khaskheli, 30. They drank the liquor at a function in Kario Ganwar area near Badin a few days ago. A young man, Azeem Solangi, died in Shaikh Bhirkyo village in Tando Muhammad Khan on Saturday. He was admitted at the Civil hospital for a week. In a separate incident, Punhu Garglo and Fateh Muhammad Garglo, both from Tando Allahyar and Ghulam Shabir Daudano, Izharul Haq Mallah and a police constable, Qaiser Khanzada, died a few days ago.

The hospital, however, denied having received any patient with such complaints. The Tando Allahyar Civil hospital medical superintendent, Karim Baksh Burdi, stated in his report to the excise officials that the hospital had not received any case over the last week.

According to him, no patient at the hospital had died of alcohol poisoning.
