Shootout: Cop wounded in crossfire with outlaws

Police said that two proclaimed offenders had been on the run for the past few years.

A police constable was wounded during a shootout between police and a gang of outlaws here on Thursday, police said on Friday.


Havelian Police said that two proclaimed offenders Abdul Qayum alias Koda and Dildar alias Pappu of Kasaki Goriyan village had been on the run for the past few years.

They were wanted for criminal activities including murder, waylaying and robbery. On Thursday evening, a contingent of police following an intelligence report, raided a hideout in the same village.

However, since the outlaws were stationed at a hilly location, they opened fire at the police party, injuring Constable Touseef Ahmad seriously. The police opened reactionary fire but no casualty was reported from the other side. The exchange of fire continued for over half an hour and the criminals fled the scene.  The injured was taken to Ayub Medical Complex, where his condition is stated to be stable. He got bullet wounds on his legs and torso, doctors said.
