Rental Power scam: NAB 'discreetly' reactivates Ashraf's bank accounts

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has lifted the restrictions on three bank accounts of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, while stating that the restoration of the accounts was done without any official letter written, Express News reported Friday.

Express News quoted sources as saying that Ashraf’s account which were allegedly used in the Rental Power scam, were “discreetly” reactivated by NAB after he took charge as the prime minister.

The banks in which the prime minister had his accounts also informed him about the reactivation.

Ashraf was accused of receiving kickbacks in the rental power projects. He was also accused of buying property in London from money earned through corruption in various scams.

He is currently defending himself in the Supreme Court.

On March 30, the apex court had directed the National Accountability Bureau to proceed against those who were in the post of minister for water and power from 2006 till the next general elections. As a result, on April 20, NAB issued arrest warrants for 33 persons, including Ashraf.

@HasBeen: PPP is not democratically elected.People voted out of ignorance and in sympathy for the assassination of Benazir. No one could have imagined that Zardari would become president and his sole purpose will be personal gain for himself and his ministers.
