KU signs MoU with Iranian varsity

KARACHI: The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Karachi University (KU) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Phyto-chemistry Research Centre (SBMUPRC), Tehran.

SBMUPRC and ICCBS will seek to develop and implement a mutually beneficial relationship in different areas of scientific research.

Director ICCBS Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary signed the MoU, while Director SBMUPRC Prof Dr Syed Abdul Majeed Ayatollahi, in his recent visit to Pakistan, signed the MoU on behalf of his centre.

Both the institutions have agreed to jointly work towards the establishment of research programmes in ICCBS and SBMUPRC devoted to the discovery of bioactive natural products and the quality control for botanicals used for medicinal purposes (botanicals).

ICCBS spokesman said that the collaborative activities to be covered by this agreement may include faculty and research staff exchanges, study abroad programmes, collaborative research programmes, including exchange of voucher samples and natural product extracts, joint seminars, workshops and service programmes.

He said this agreement will be in effect for a period of five years from the date of execution and may be extended by mutual agreement in writing by both parties.
