Eradication strategy: Karachi draws up anti-malaria plan

All malaria control officials have been order to submit a daily report.

KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has formed a strategy to control and eradicate malaria. The strategy was prepared in a meeting chaired by Dr Shaukat Zaman, the senior director of municipal services. The meeting was also attended by Dr Mansoor Shaikh, the director of municipal health, Dr Hamid Mustafa, the deputy director of municipal public health, and other officers. Officials decided to channelize all drains and sprinkle fenthion to control the breeding of mosquitoes. All malaria control officials have been order to submit a daily report. The extermination campaign will be monitored by a senior officer of the KMC. A public awareness campaign will also be carried out through banners and the distribution of pamphlets. Citizens are advised to lodge their complaints at 1339 so that extermination teams could be sent out immediately.
