Australian number one Cameron Pilley was beaten by defending champion Ramy Ashour in the semi-final of the Australian Open squash tournament in Canberra yesterday. Ashuor ousted his opponent 8-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 to set up an all Egyptian final against compatriot Omar Mosaad, which will be played today, according to the event’s official website. Despite the defeat, Pilley was happy with his performance through the week. “That’s the best I’ve played all tournament, it’s the best I’ve moved,” said the Australian. “I think I was definitely there in contention to win the match but just towards the end of the game, he took control. He’s pretty experienced in those situations.” In the other semi-final, Mosaad downed Tom Richards 9-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 with the Englishman struggling with a muscle strain suffered early in the contest.
