The rare statement by the militants’ one-eyed leader claims victories on the battlefield against Nato and defends as tactical the Taliban's initial contacts, now suspended, with the United States.
General John Allen pilloried the statement as “an unmistakable message of death, hate and hopelessness for the Afghan people” on the eve of Eidul Fitr celebrations marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramazan.
Calling Omar a “deranged man” using “insane language”, Allen scoffs at his call on Taliban militants to avoid killing civilians, pointing to the deaths of dozens of civilians in a series of suicide and bomb attacks this week.
“Either Omar is lying, or his henchmen are not listening to him, but it is clear that innocent Afghan civilians are paying the price for his corrupt leadership,” Allen said in a statement.
In an apparent move to allay fears among some Taliban factions, Omar said in his seven-page statement that initial talks with the United States “had not meant submission or abandoning our goals”.
Instead they had been aimed at initiating an exchange of prisoners, opening a political office and to “reach our goals”, he said, noting that the Taliban had suspended the talks earlier this year.
He called the “so-called transition”, under which Nato is handing increasing responsibility for the war to Afghan security forces ahead of the exit of some 130,000 foreign troops by the end of 2014, a sign of defeat.
And Omar, said by the Afghan government to be based in neighbouring Pakistan, warned the war would continue after their departure.
“The Afghan people will wage jihad (holy war) against the foreign invasion until complete independence of the country, though the invasion may ensconce itself in the garb of peace-keeping forces or strategic cooperation,” he said.
The United States has signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement with the government of President Hamid Karzai pledging support after the departure of combat troops and is expected to leave a residual force behind.
The Taliban has always refused to negotiate directly with Karzai’s government, labelling it a puppet of Washington, and Omar dismissed it in his statement as “corrupt, collapsing and ill”.
But, he said in his message, which mixed belligerence with promises of future “unity and harmony”, the Taliban “will make efforts to reach an understanding with the Afghan factions in due time following (the) pull-out of the invaders”.
On the war itself, Omar claimed that the “unique distinction” of this year's summer offensive by the Taliban was that it had reached all areas of the country and forced Nato and Afghan government into defensive positions.
Nato has acknowledged a spike in attacks this summer over the same period last year.
Omar also claimed that a spate of green-on-blue attacks, in which Afghan forces turn their weapons against Nato personnel, was the result of Taliban infiltrating local security units.
Nato says most of the incidents, in which 39 foreign soldiers have been killed this year, are motivated by cultural differences between troops and plays down the role of Taliban infiltration.
The Taliban, led by Omar, were in power from 1996 until being ousted by a US-led invasion in 2001 for harbouring al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington.

@Truth: The same way that its possible for an organization like the Taliban to attack anywhere they want in Pakistan. Or is the Pak Army's defenselessness an "American inside job" too?
@Humayun, so what you are essentially implying then is that the killings perpetrated on Afghan civilians by Mullah Omer and his band of marauders is "sane" ??? Well done! You should go and live in Miramshah for some fireworks starting soon featuring your heroes...
@ John
First, there is no 40 day month in any calender. I feel you have a short term memory loss since you forget US involvement in killing millions of innocent all around the world starting from Hiroshima and Nagasaki till Afghanistan.
Secondly, Explain to me how is it possible for an organization (Taliban) who do not own any other advanced weaponry other than a gun can harm US which has the most sophisticated defense technology. War on Afghanistan is senseless and is totally to gain other goals. Now do not cry about inside jobs such as 9/11.
Thirdly, US always whine about its own interests, learn to swallow that other countries exist in this world as well who have their own interests. You can not just bully around and invade other countries on pity matters.
You were equally insane when you tried your new weapon Daisy Cutter on Afghanistan !
it is deranged because Americans came to Afghanistan when atrocities of taliban on women (extrajudicial killing by firing squad) and minority should wear star on clothes) destruction of Buddha relics etc. Now he is probably living comfortably with his several wives and children just like OBL, whereas young naive succide bomber blowing up. Nobody is talking about these families at Eid who lost their children to Taliban . Imagine Eid in these peoples house who lost there children to succide attackes.
John u n ur company has lit up afghanistan ... millions of people u hav killed so far n who is answerable for them.. hav some respect for urselves n get lost .. Nobdy wants deranged US army
America hasn't learnt lesson from the vietnam war which he wrapped ignominiously after having been defeated by the vietnamese. No matter how mighty and death spewing war machines the U.S. has in her arsenal, the war in other countries couldn't be won where the local people are against the foreign aggression. For U.S., the history is being repeted in Afghanistan. Because of its imprudent policies, especially against the muslim countries, the U.S. has spread the network of 'Al-qaida'. The more the U.S.attacks the muslim countries, direct or proxy, the more al-qaida emerges there to face america. Iraq, libya, syria had no al-qaida bases there but the US invasion in those countries has given way to the al-qaida to fight america and its agents. Pakistan didn't have any 'pakistani taliban' before the u.s. invasion of afghanistan and pakistan's support to it.
Nato should have kept their trap shut for once. They have an excellent track record of invading muslim countries. They have lost all legitimacy.
Deranged ...more than Bush & co .?..who started this mad war of terror....invaded Iraq for invisible WMD....?
John go home...and don't you come back no more no more..
After the end of forty days of fasting and prayer, Omar's message is a revelation of his mind and the future he offers to Afghanistan. It has always been about power, money, control and the perceived Amirship. The ousted Mullah Omar must answer to Afghanistan people for the crimes against women and men.
PAK cannot chicken out that going after him will create trouble inside PAK and consider appeasing him as an alternative for her own peace and her strategic depth doctrine. US will not rest until Omar rests, with or without PAK help, even if it takes another ten years. Did Omar offer any strategic depth prior to and after 2001 for PAK in Afghanistan, India, or even in PAK?
What is insane or deranged about this message, especially when this is branded as such by John Allen.
If by Message of Hate he meant that Mullah Omer has said that he and other Taliban hate American led NATO forces and want to kill them then General Allen should not blame Mullah Omer because He and other NATO Commanders give these kind of bellicose and insane messages in press briefings everyday and all the time.
