The chief minister met Ali in Lahore on Monday where he handed him the cheque and promised to give him a scholarship for his future studies. He also said that the Punjab government will bear all his expenses.
Sharif told Ali that the government as well as the entire nation is proud of him and added that the future of the country is in the hands of such students.
MNA Sara Afzal and Pervaiz Rasheed were also present at the meeting.
Ali, who works at a tandoor in Lahore and is a son of a labourer, stunned everyone on Saturday after securing 688 marks in BA examinations securing the first position.

@Muhammad Usman: I think so, yes. A good many politicians use their time in office to erect various things occasionally of use to the public to which they attach their name as though they personally were the benefactors. I can think of two instances locally, including a public park officially named after the two state legislators who pushed the money through the legislature to get it established. It is greatly enjoyed by the public, who do not begrudge them the reminder of their benefactor-in-fact, of not in law. The concession to the egos of politicians is accepted for its public benefit.
If corruption were involved, the public might choose to rename it, as well as prosecute the corrupt actor.
Rehman Malik should closely investigate that no fraud was involved and that this young man indeed performed as he is supposed to have! No cheating, no bribes, no hanky-panky. No upstaging by Punjab of the Federal Government! Here at last is a task worthy of Rehman Malik's convoluted mind and even more questionable talents!
what? no free laptop?????? lol
@ naeem khan Manhattan, spending tax money on these young hardworking people is better than wasting donation money on gambling.
Congrads on your amazing result, but this is a Tandoor Wala.why cant you understand. He did not have resources to arrange tutors but succeeded.Ali deserves all scholarships and financial aid toward his education and nothing more than that. This is a process of handing out money to make people lazy and corrupt. When one can get all these without working further, why would he try harder anymore?
SHAHBAZ PAKISTAN
Look at your comment. right a letter?
i hope his cheque does not bounce in bank!! it was better he was offered a job to live better and work better in future...
Congrads on your amazing result, but you can you right a letter in English that is not coming for text book, can you right a speech that can win debating competitions, can you manage- people or perform admin work in multi-national companies. If you can then you deserve this money otherwise we need to spend money on improving our level of educations because our BA grad cannot compete with high school grad in CAN/US.
I did not wanted to be involved in political debate but some non serious people asked for it.
One simple question. Is it ok to claim building a hospital in your political resume?, when this was build from public money on a govt provided piece of land , given by a corrupt politician.
@ truth bites
This is a TANDOOR WALA. why cant you understand. He did not have resources to arrange tutors but succeeded.
Please leave petty politics on the side and look at human aspect.
I agree Shabaz got publicity. Just ignore this and look who benefited. Thre should be more encouragement for poor-- out of the box.
This guy is not city, beacon, atichon, lums, gik, iba.
get rid of mental block
Does he have a bank account? I doubt.
Providing incentives for people to devote their time to productive activities is a very good policy. It however will be efficient only if two conditions are met:
(i) Awards/prizes must be decided by mechanical (non-manipulable) rules known to all. (ii) Incentive policy must be expected to persist for a longer period of time.
One-time generous award is not going to have large-scale incentive affect, and this could be behind the cynicism reflected in some of the comments.
@bilal - if the system is already in place, why he has to go overboard and stage a show for this?
Shahbaz shareef setup a system of scholarships in 2008-9 way before election year n before pti got popular...35,000 students get scholarships...learn to appreciate good initiatives...to all those criticising
SS give One million to Ali, & put Two million to his pocket . . . . ????
Very happy! very pleased for him and for the CM and for Pakistan :)
Dimonds are product of Coal mill !
Whatever, it is we should appreciate it.
@Fahim: He is free to distribute the money like a mughal empror among his party workers so let him to do something for the poor too
@Walayat Malik: u seem to undertand Muhsin's position.. hor how many hrs u have worked on a tandoor and studied simultaneously?....
Education is one sector in which no provincial govt done some thing except punjab.
New scholarships and visit to foreign universities for position holders each year from 2008.
Education endowment fund. Lap top.
Yes this is public money spent on public money.
The comments here clearly depict sick mentality. This guy who secured position is an ordinary TANDOOR WALA . He in competition with best and rich people done this. Who so ever appreciates him is good.
What is more concerning is hatred, blind following and idol worship iN so called EDUCATED youth.
Healthy societies don't discriminate good gestures, unfortunately our poor ,uneducated hating so called educated and well off class is doing great disservice to this nation.
If we accept these logic , than ill gotten wealth , given for charity is not good---?
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: Sir, I agree with you 100%. Ali deserves all scholarships and financial aid toward his education and nothing more than that. This is a process of handing out money to make people lazy and corrupt. When one can get all these without working further, why would he try harder anymore? This is the difference in the West and Pakistan where we promote dependency not hard work and earn the benefit instead of handouts. Thanks and regards, Mirza
Well done to boy! and shame for CM who tries to politically cash in for his acheivment. While a good gesture, but why not drive a system of scholoship instead of personal show off and feeling him like a begger! He definitely should be supported by government but not one off and one man show like this.
All youth like this should be encouraged through a automatic scholorship program without going to any MNA/MPA or CM for this case. He should get his reward without knowing anyone and photographed for political publicity.
Make a system not king like handout system!
Good move by the CM. Such students should be encouraged. CM did the right thing by giving him a handsome amount of money and a home in Lahore. Well done Shahbaz. You are the man in PML-N with a strong will but your subordinates are dishonest.
something burning inside PTI Jiyalas. have an applause for this guy. he (Mohisn) did exception and so be treated exceptionally. if he same thing did by imran you would see these so called revolutionists on job.
@M.Aswad Mehtab: No Sir he did not earn it, it was a handout and not from CM's own pocket as should have been but from tax payers money like yourself. This is one way to corrupt highly intelligent and hard working person. It is a sad day for Ali and his future. When will you people ever stop corruption and perpetuate this corruption.
I wrote a suggestion the other day to Ali that hard work and honesty will take him to the heights of good life but unfortunately he has accepted a handout by the CM who will dole out tax payers money like his. The sad part is that these politicians are multi-millionaires and they could afford to do these shenanigans from their own pockets. My dear Ali they just corrupted you like they do to keep themselves afloat. These were the people who attacked the Supreme Court of Pakistan physically and the justices had to run for their lives. What a country.
A simple graduate got 1 million.Think how much he would have got if he is an IIT topper. But in india an IIT topper does not get even a penny from govt side....think and think why? This is a big question.Might clear your mind...
Desperate times, desperate moves. Tax payers just paid a million rupee and Sharif brothers take the credit! Bravo
Well done Ali. May God give you the strength to achieve all your goals and make your country proud.
Mian Brothers are the only leaders who fulfill their promises.
Is not rewarding system already in place for student who excel?
This is not Chief Minister's personal stash that he keeps doling out. All toppers get duly rewarded under the designate system of monetory aid and incentives.
Just because this guy made it to news Khadim e Aala start hogging after cheap popularity.
Just a media stunt!
Political stunt because PM has announced reward money for the aspirant student , Cm punjab came into the scene to make the most of it even though he earlier announced to bear all his EDUCATIONAL efforts , which was better act . am i right ???
The negative comments on this post shows us the extreme natuer of our mentality. If we are agaisnt someone, no matter how good deed the other person has done we would still manage to find some negativee and vice versa. Why this gentleman deserve so much appreciation is because he works at Tandoor till 12 midnight and still he managed to secure the top position. those asking about the use of public or personal money should remember that he is also part of the public.
He Earned it !! Remarkable Achievement...
There is a lot of money for grabs by youth fom CM before elections :-) Good jesture but it wouldnt have happened in the first year of the government ;-) PTI breathing down CM's neck!
Best of luck Mohsen
Proud of you!
Good work Shahbaz Sharif, this will get you a lot of votes.
@Hasan: dude, thats sad, how can you be so insensitive. politcal afliations aside, you must appreciate your country's talents. I am afraid, you dnt have much
Dude, cash it out as soon as possible. You deserves every paisa of it.
Well Deserved ....! Congratulations
I sincerely hope that he can get the cheque en cashed!!!!
Any student who tops in BA exam will automatically get a scholarship to further pursue his/her education. Even students with first division or better marks will be awarded scholarship. Shehbaz Sharif has gone overboard by giving Rs1million. Did he give from his own pocket or is it taxpayer's money? Politicians consider public exchequer as their personal account. Ridiculous!
personal money or "our" money
That is good appreciation................. and also financil help
CM Punjab just wants to be in the news everyday.
Good job by Ali and better by Punjab CM, I am living back in a mountainous area of KP but my support will be always with the CM of Panjab....
Good but it was shahbaz's own money or from government account ? Distribution of governemnt money against the rules
why I don't feel excited about the news.. why do I feel betrayed? when will institutes be strengthened ? When ?
Feeling fresh and cool air, some one doing for people
Remarkable
acha??? hmmm
