Democracy key to survival: HRCP

Says gap between the military and civil authorities can be bridged through mutual discussion.

ISLAMABAD: The consultation on ‘civil-military relations and their impact on human rights’ organised by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) maintained that the country’s survival depends on strengthening the democratic process so as to remove tensions between the military and civil society.

The attendees stressed the importance of the military, saying its services cannot be denied.

They said the gap between the military and civil authorities can be bridged through mutual discussion.

For a harmonious civil and military relationship, it is absolutely necessary that political parties contribute to the growth of a democratic culture by democratising their own party apparatus.
