Busted: Police seize 18kg of opium, arrest two

ISLAMABAD: The City police on Sunday seized a big consignment of opium being smuggled from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab. The Sabzi Mandi police said thye intercepted a truck on IJ Principle Road, which was coming from Peshawar and was headed to the Grand Trunk Road. On checking, the police found 18kg of opium concealed in different parts of the vehicle. Two suspects Ameer Khan and Haider Zaman, both residents of Malakand Agency, were arrested and booked. During initial investigations, the police said the suspects confessed of smuggling the drugs to Punjab. They told the police that the consignment was handed over to them from Mardan by a smuggler and it was to be collected by some unknown men in Rawalpindi. However, the suspects said they did not know the identities of the smugglers.
