No decision on leasing aircraft: PIA

KARACHI:

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Saturday said that no decision has been taken on awarding of contract for the lease of aircraft.

Responding to a report published in The Express Tribune, PIA said that only three firms had offered aircraft and all of them are being evaluated.

“No decision has been made yet and it is only after complete technical evaluation, financial evaluation and physical inspection of the aircraft that the lease formalities would be completed and decided,” a PIA spokesperson said in a statement.

The statement said that tenders for dry lease of aircraft were opened on July 16, 2012 for technical bids. Financial bids were opened on August 2 and the board meeting was held on August 7.

“Board of Directors of PIA has only approved the type of aircraft and no lease bid has been approved. The bidding was witnessed by the representatives of all the unions and bidders,” the statement added.

The national carrier, however, did not state if it intends to lease B-737 800 aircraft and did not deny any of other facts mentioned in the news report.

My proposal : Shut down PIA and sell its assets and improve railway with that money. Let local private and international airlines take care of air travel.
